Man caught cooking meth inside KFC

Police say a man was caught cooking methamphetamine inside a KFC restaurant Friday morning.

Stuffed reports police were called to the Hobart-area restaurant just before 11 a.m. after employees reported a suspicious customer.

Authorities discovered a “one pot” meth lab and one man was taken into custody. A “one pot” meth lab is essentially just a plastic bottle filled with chemicals. It is dangerous because there is only a thin layer of plastic covering the chemicals, and it could explode at any time.

Several officers were treated for exposure to chemicals. State police were called to contain the lab.

Stuffed reports several people may have been involved, including one person who was sitting at a booth inside the restaurant.

The restaurant was reopened that same day after a health inspection. No violations were reported.

KFC issued a statement Friday morning.

“We are proud of our KFC team members who quickly alerted local authorities about a suspicious customer, and thankful for the Police department’s rapid response. We are grateful to be part of a community where everyone looks out for one another, and works together to keep our neighborhoods safe,” the statement read.
